News for Our Future

What is “News for Our Future”?

“News for Our Future” (NfOF) is a TV news commentary program produced by Our Task in cooperation with Arlington Independent Media.  It gives young adults a voice on global affairs and trains interested students and adults in news presentation and video production.  The objective is to give young people more voice on issues that will shape their future and to build an audience for inter-generational dialog on important issues.  The videos are presented on YouTube (5-10 minute episodes) or on “News for Our Future” (28 min. episodes broadcast locally on COMCAST-69, Verizon-38, Tuesdays at 5:30 pm and Saturdays at 4:00 pm and streamed nationally).  Also check out our YouTube videos.

Is this program right for me?

From high school students, 15 years old and older, to retired citizens, this program may interest you if you want to …

  • Suggest future NfOF topics

  • Select topics and/or format for our future episodes

  • Learn, share and/or teach about issues that affect our future

  • Present these issues in front of a camera(s)

  • Share or be trained in video production skills

Any of the position will involve regular meetings with the producer and completing your specific role in video production. We expect at least 2 hours per week, unless you have specific role for production only, and production week could require up to 10 hrs per week. We can work around the schedule, however, so that it fits your availability. The minimum term is two NfOF episodes (first one will be mostly for training)  with the chance for renewal at the end of project completion.

How can I get involved?

Please visit our volunteer page for specific opportunities. What’s written above are basic needs for video production, however, if there are other ways in which you can see yourself contributing to this project, please let Maria (Maria.Takahashi@OurTask.org) know. Also, if you are part of a student/professional group that wants to convey a message collectively, we can hear your ideas and talk through our options.

Not quite sure if you can make a regular commitment….

but still want to suggest topics for future episodes?  As a reference point, we encourage topics drawn from the issues discussed in the OT Youth Earth Plan executive summary, such as energy, climate, ecology, food, water, population, failing states, national security, and other environmental, economic and social sustainability issues, etc.
