Thinking like a species

It seems that now, no species avoids extinction unless our human species wills it.  If a species is to survive, we have to protect it and its habitat.

The Endangered Species Act provides protection to species that are declared endangered.  But,the process for a species to be added to the list of endangered species is often a long arduous undertaking that humans must perform for other species.

As reported by Michael Wines in the NYT, 258 species have been waiting for a thumbs-up or thumbs-down on their fate.  After long delays, decisions are now expected soon.

How does feel be part of a species that is regularly deciding thumbs-up or thumbs-down on other species continued existence?
