What is Youth Earth Plan (YEP)?

We humans—especially young people—need an action plan to achieve the Youth Earth Vision. To meet this need, OT has prepared a Youth Earth Plan (YEP). Interns worked in collaboration with Mentors primarily during the summer of 2008-2010. In publishing of this document, we have received praise from high-level officials.  (See, for example, the comments by a former prime minister of Iceland).

Presentation

Purpose:

  • Keeps OT informed with current international outlooks and global strategies

  • Use as an educational material to present thinking of young adults on the large scale and adress changes needed if youth—and all forms of life—are to reach the year 2100 safely.

Methods (How did we create this document?):

  • Summarizing respected Earth outlooks for social, economic, technological, resource, environmental, and peace/war trends.

  • Analyzing and assessing the models and assumptions of the models used in making the projections and outlooks, and

  • Summarizing all the Earth strategies published by our culture-shaping establishments—our governmental, spiritual, international, corporate, media, scientific, educational, and civil institutions.

Follow up: A “Youth Impact Statement”?

One follow up idea is to require “Youth Impact Statements” similar to Environmental Impact Statements (EIS). An EIS is required when the US government is considering an action that would significantly impact the environment.  A Youth Impact Statement might be required when laws, treaties, or major policy decisions being considered that would impact the planet and it’s people long term.  Environmental Impact Statements have changed the policy process and the nature of the discussion in the United States. We need a process that will alter global thining at least as much.  Also see the Youth Earth Plan, page 44.
